In Lisbon, Sunday is still generally a day of rest and religion, and most places are closed either all day or early, so the hostel offered a dinner option for 5 Euros. When we checked in, the girl at the desk described it to us as including salad, fries, wine, Portuguese roasted chicken, and dessert. Sounded great to us and it would be an opportunity to meet some other people staying at the hostel, so we decided to join.
The staff set up a nice big dinner table in the lounge and 13 hostel guests, including us, sat together for quite a nice meal. In Vancouver we’ve had Portuguese style chicken at a franchise chain called Nandos, and I must say they do quite a nice job of replicating the authentic stuff we had tonight – except for the Peri Peri sauce! The hostel workers warned us that the Peri Peri sauce was really really spicy but Paul was either not listening or didn’t hear and took an entire spoonful and put it all over his chicken. For once he finished his wine before me
Lesson learned – the Portuguese version of spicy = serious heat!
The other conclusion of the night – we are currently the oldest people staying here….
Hahahaha, you two are the oldest there….interesting
