Weird Hostel Experience #1

Being fully and totally in jet lag mode, I woke up this morning at 4:30 am and tossed and turned for a bit, then sat up thinking maybe I would get up.  I noticed someone was sleeping in the top bunk of the other bed in the room and when we went to sleep last night, that was an unoccupied bed.  I leaned over and checked the bottom bunk of our bed where Paul was sleeping, and noticed he wasn’t there, so I figured he wasn’t able to sleep in the bottom bunk and moved over to the other bed.  The room was still pitch black and the breathing pattern sounded basically the same as Paul’s  -  although it seemed odd that he would move to a bunk bed where someone else was sleeping on the bottom.

I decided that since he was sleeping soundly, I might as well try to get a few more hours of rest as well so I tossed and turned for another hour, unable to really sleep.  Finally, I decided to try moving to the bottom bunk, and after a while, I fell asleep again at around 6:30.  An hour passed and at 7:30, I woke up to the sound of Paul opening the lockers that are beneath our beds and prepared to get up as well.  Looking over at the other bunk bed, I notice there is still someone on the top bunk! I was like “holy crap, I thought that was you sleeping there!”  Paul laughed and told me he’d been up since 3:30 and had been downstairs and it didn’t make sense for him to go sleep on that bunk bed - if he wanted the top bunk he would’ve woken me up instead.  Thanks hunny….

So, lesson learned, sometimes people check into a hostel in the middle of the night and are put into your room without you knowing.  Thank God I didn’t climb up there and try to wake him up when I couldn’t sleep – that thought had crossed my mind!
