We have finally had a meal that can only be described as total perfection! For once everything, from appetizers to dessert, was simply amazing and if anyone is going to Nice, you simply must go eat at Voyageur Nissart on Rue Alsace-Lorraine!
As with all restaurants we’ve eaten at so far in Nice, the menu was arranged as a choice of appetizer, main course, and dessert for a fixed price. There were three price points to choose from – 15 euro, 19 euro, and 25 euro – with different options for the appetizer and main course in each price category. We decided to go with the 19 euro option and I ordered salade niçoise, rabbit with scalloped potatoes and crème brulee while Paul ordered gnocchi, beef stew with some kind of baked vegetable side and tiramisu.
This is the first time Paul has had gnocchi that he likes, and I have to say they gave it just the right texture. Both the rabbit and the beef stew were cooked to absolute perfection, with just the right amount of spices and wine in the flavor. The meat was so amazingly tender, but not overcooked at all. The portions weren’t huge, but just the right amount of food. We ate slowly to savor the tastes, and by the end of it we were both completely full.
It seems as though we’ve come a long way from Portugal – the good meals are finally outnumbering the bad ones and I’m definitely loving the food in France. However, this is only the third country in our travels so we’ll have to see how it goes from here, but after tonight, I definitely have renewed hope!
