We bit the bulllet and left the stuff there not wanting to waste time and energy carrying the bags around. Just took the important documents and techy stuff. Came back and it was all still there along with many other ppls bags so I guess its a common occurrence. We were only allowed to leave our stuff with the owner of the ryokan and could not check-in. Since we wanted to do a lot of sight-seeing, we ended up not checking in until we were done for the day later that night. The only thing we could think of was that housekeeping was still cleaning our room and so it was not available. The indian/african food from Geneva looks mouth watering! :) Chris and I had a similar experience when we went to a ryokan in Kyoto.
